In December 2016, GreenbergFarrow entered a global design competition to design light towers for the East Bank of Huangpu River. This competition invited architects from around the world to compete in the concepts, strategies, and designs of twenty-four light towers for the waterfront on the East Bank of Huangpu River.
The light towers were designed to be both people friendly and environment-friendly, with human nature-integration, and fit for tourism. The goal was to develop the Huangpu River into a cultural hub, ecological landscape, and sport and leisure center.
After moving through several rounds of the competition design stages, GreenbergFarrow was selected by the Shanghai Planning and Land/Resource Administration Bureau and Pudong New Area People’s Government as one of the five winners.
Of the twenty-four light towers being constructed, GreenbergFarrow will be responsible for the design of five towers along the east bund. This project highlights our teams’ effort and winning design strategies for this exciting high-profile project in Shanghai.
