| GreenbergFarrow
implemented two very different design solutions for The Home
Depot’s first urban locations in Manhattan. On 23rd Street,
GreenbergFarrow reinvented the stand-alone big-box store for
a tightly-gridded, classically cosmopolitan context by uniting
a pair of existing limestone buildings. Each building’s
historic facades were preserved, complete with the original
architectural details. Three levels of offices are located above
the retail floors. On Third Avenue, the challenge was to create
an eye-catching entrance that easily identified with The Home
Depot and drew shoppers into its cellared location of the new
Bloomberg Media Headquarters. The final design of the entrance
took on a “jewel box” look, illuminated with The
Home Depot’s signature orange color. The below-grade store
is spread out over three levels. |
